3D on your PC: Simplified

Experiencing 3D on your PC starts with a processor inside your PC called the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). NVIDIA® GPUs are called GeForce® GPUs.

The primary function of the GPU is to render and display images on your PC monitor. In the case of 3D PCs, a GeForce GPU is specially programmed to render and displays two images, one for your left eye and one for your right eye. The monitor and 3D glasses work with the GeForce GPU so each eye receives its own image. Because each of your eyes receives a separate image, your brain perceives 3D.

3D on a PC with NVIDIA is called 3D Vision.

Benefits of 3D Vision

PCs based on NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ define the best-in-class, premium 3D PCs available today. 3D Vision PCs have the following benefits over other 3D PCs:

  ACTIVE SHUTTER GLASSES TECHNOLOGY
NVIDIA 3D Vision PCs work with cutting edge LCDs that feature true 120Hz LCD technology to deliver a full-resolution 3D experience with active shutter glasses technology. With this method, the left and right eye images are presented on alternating frames, but since these monitors are capable of 120Hz, each eye still sees a full 60Hz signal that is equivalent to the refresh rate on LCD monitors today. 3D Vision PCs support desktop LCD monitors with resolutions of 1680x1050 and 1920x1080.This offers a number of advantages including:

> Full resolution per eye: In 3D mode, each eye receives the full resolution of    the display for the highest possible image quality for text and objects.

> Wide Viewing angle for 3D: Because full images are presented on alternating    frames, there are no restrictions on the viewing angle in 3D mode. Users are    free to move their heads vertically or horizontally within the full viewing angle    of the display without losing the 3D effect or suffering increased ghosting    which allowing for comfortable viewing for continuous gaming or movie    watching.

> Great 2D Operation: If you decide to switch back to 2D at any time, the    performance of 3D Vision PCs support a 120 Hz higher refresh rate that reduces    ghosting and blur typically found during motion on existing PCs that have 60 Hz    displays.

> Personalized fit: Designed and built by NVIDIA, our high tech active shutter    glasses have top-of-the-line optics, include adjustable nose pieces, and are    modeled after modern sunglasses.

AUTOMATIC DETECTION AND DYNAMIC 3D ADJUSTMENT
Once you get a 3D Vision PC, experiencing 3D is quick and easy. When you launch a certified game, it will automatically run in 3D. Since the 3D effect is driven by the GeForce GPU, you can increase/decrease the 3D depth or toggle it on/off in real time.

A COMPLETE ECOSYSTEM OF CERTIFIED HARDWARE AND CONTENT
There is a huge ecosystem of products that directly supports NVIDIA 3D Vision. To help simplify this for consumers, NVIDIA developed the 3D Vision-Ready program that identifies components and content as being ready or purposely built for the 3D Vision PC. Only certified products carry the NVIDIA 3D Vision-Ready badge.

> 3D Vision-Ready Components: monitors, graphics Cards, cameras, and other    hardware is certified to work seamlessly with 3D Vision to establish the highest    quality and most diverse collection of 3D PCs available

> 3D Vision-Ready Content: built specifically using guidance from NVIDIA’s    The-Way-It’s-Meant-To-Be-Played program. For instance, games that carry the    badge ensure menus, heads-up-displays, scenery, and cut scenes are rendered    in flawless 3D.
